American Electric Power

American Electric Power is one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, delivering electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states. AEP ranks among the nation's largest generators of electricity, owning nearly 36,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the U.S. AEP also owns the nation's largest electricity transmission system, a nearly 39,000-mile network that includes more 765 kilovolt extra-high voltage transmission lines than all other U.S. transmission systems combined. AEP's utility units operate as AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power (in Virginia and West Virginia), AEP Appalachian Power (in Tennessee), Indiana Michigan Power, Kentucky Power, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and Southwestern Electric Power Company (in Arkansas, Louisiana and east Texas). AEP is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.

AEP's objective is to be an economical, reliable and safe provider of electric energy to the markets we serve. In addition to having one of the largest generation fleets and one of the largest transmission systems in the U.S., AEP 200,000 miles of overhead and underground distribution lines.

AEP also controls more than 7,000 rail cars, 2,300 barges and 53 towboats, operates one active coal-handling terminal with 20 million tons of capacity and consumes approximately 75 million tons of coal annually.

AEP's 2005 ongoing earnings were $1.063 billion; 2005 ongoing earnings per share were $2.73; the company had 2005 revenues of $11.9 billion and assets of $36.2 billion. AEP has more than 20,000 employees in the U.S.

Established in 1906, AEP is celebrating its centennial year. During its 100-year history, AEP has been an industry leader in technological innovations. From the first major mine-mouth power plant to extra high-voltage transmission lines to the world's largest walking dragline, AEP is proud to have contributed significantly to the growth of the electric industry.

The tradition continues today with AEP's announcement to build the first fully commercial scale Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle plant in the U.S. This pioneering step will keep coal a viable energy option while greatly reducing emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, particulates, nitrogen oxides and mercury. AEP's plan to build a 550-mile 765,000-volt transmission line from West Virginia to New Jersey would enhance reliability of the eastern transmission grid and help provide lower-cost electricity from the Midwest for consumers in the Mid-Atlantic region.

As AEP begins its second century, our vision is to maintain our leadership as one of the largest generation and transmission companies in the United States; to maintain our leadership as one of the largest electric distribution business throughout the regions we serve; and to maintain our leadership in technical innovation of power systems, environmental technology, transmission systems and customer service.

AEP remains true to its mission of bringing comfort to our customers, supporting business and commerce and building strong communities.
